After Your Pet's Vaccination

Thanks
for bringing your pet in to see us for a vaccination visit. We appreciate your
trust. There are a few things you will want to keep in mind…..
On the
whole, vaccines are safe and effective. However, side
effects are not unheard of. There are three main types
of vaccine reactions. Although they have fancier names,
we will call them the Same Day Reaction, the Day After
Reaction, and the Lump Reaction.

for more information.
Vaccines need to be boosted periodically. How often
depends on many factors. At Sunnyside Veterinary Clinic,
we follow the recommendations of the American Animal
Hospital Association and the American Association of
Feline Practitioners.
Click here for more information on
these guidelines.
In general, puppies and kittens need to be vaccinated
every three to four weeks until they turn 16 weeks old,
and again one year later. After that, some vaccines need
to be given every year, while some need to be given
every three years.
Every pet needs to be examined by a Veterinarian once a
year. This is even more important than the vaccine
boosters. Dogs and cats age about 7 years for every year
that passes, and even I go see my doctor every seven
years. A lot can happen in seven years. A Veterinarian’s
exam will help keep your pet healthy and happy for the
duration of their long life.
Older Pets may benefit from more frequent examinations.
Since they age seven dog or cat years for every human
year that passes, most older pets really benefit from
more frequent exams. How would it be if Grandpa only saw
his doctor every seven years, when he was 65, 72, 79,
and 86? At Sunnyside Veterinary Clinic, we recommend
having your senior pet examined every 6 months. A lot
can happen in 6 months….
And don’t forget about Vaccine Reactions. Although a
reaction is less likely in adult patients, reactions are
still possible. Click here
for more information.
Thanks so much for bringing your pet to us. We look
forward to seeing you again at your pet’s next check-up.
