No DescriptionAtopica Anti-Vomiting Protocol

If your dog experiences vomiting when starting Atopica therapy, don't panic!  The following plan will help your dog overcome this common side-effect.

We start by prescribing a medicine called metoclopramide.  This is a medicine commonly used to treat vomiting.  It is given every eight hours.  For a lot of people, this works out to just before work, just after work, and just before bedtime, at 8:00 AM, 5:00 PM, and 11:00 PM.  Metoclopramide is given for 10 days.

We also start giving the patient food at the same time as we give the Atopica.  While this interferes with absorption and we usually recommend giving Atopica either one hour before or two hours after meals, because of the vomiting issues we well temporarily give food with Atopica for two weeks.

At the end of two weeks, we go back to giving Atopica either one hour before or two hours after meals.
