After-Hours Care

Sometimes medical problems arise at odd hours
when the clinic is closed. Here’s what to do…

If you, a person, get suddenly ill, you have two choices.  You can go to the Emergency Room at the hospital, or you can go to an Urgent Care Clinic. There are pros and cons to each. The ER Room is good for life-threatening things, where you might need emergency surgery or hospitalization and round-the-clock care. But it is expensive. The Urgent Care Clinic probably can’t handle an emergency surgery or round-the-clock care, but they do cost a lot less, and are the best choice for things that can be seen, treated, and then go home.

It’s the same choice for your pet.  Dr. Nield at Sunnyside Veterinary Clinic is usually available to see patients after-hours, but on an on-call basis. This means that neither a veterinarian nor staff are present at the clinic outside of regular business hours unless by special arrangement. We don’t offer round-the-clock care. But many after-hour cases don’t need round-the-clock observation. Many are treated and sent right home. So we are like the Urgent Care Clinics: less care, but less cost.

The Idaho Falls Veterinary Emergency Clinic is right up the road from us. They have a doctor and staff there all night long, and can handle an emergency surgery and round-the-clock care for critically-ill patients. So they are like the ER Room: higher level of care, higher costs. You can just show up there, or you can call ahead at 552-0662.Dr. Nield at Sunnyside Veterinary
